Building Confidence Through Creation
All students in K-8 have performing arts as part of their core curriculum, with middle school students having a wider range of options to focus on their interests as part of their elective periods.
Students take pride in showcasing their performances to families in numerous shows throughout the year, with both school-wide shows and specific grade-level performances.

Performing Arts in Elementary School
Our younger Jets participate in an active music and dance program throughout their time in the lower school, with opportunities for further enrichment classes as part of our ACE program (After Class Enrichment). Each grade participates in a variety of performances which parents and caregivers are invited to attend.
Highlights of the program include: the annual winter Performing Arts Showcase, Community Dance, World Music, learning about instruments in and sections of the orchestra, proper singing technique and stage presence, great composers and musicians, understanding music theory, conducting with a baton and understanding rhythm, playing a variety of instruments including percussion auxiliary and drums, piano guitar and more, improvisation, lyric analysis, and dancing.
In addition, students build upon essential character skills including kindness, respect for self, others and property, team work, tenacity, and determination.
Performing Arts in Middle School
Middle school students at WNS experience performing arts classes developing rehearsal and performance skills, but mainly providing the opportunity for students to develop empathy, self-confidence, public speaking, and communication and collaboration skills.
While each grade level participates in a performance, all middle school students have the opportunity to apply for several performing arts electives.
Middle school performing arts is particularly special in 8th grade, as the graduating class experiences several grade-wide traditions, such as the 8th Grade Play – fully written, produced, and directed by the students themselves. These opportunities allow the students to really cement interpersonal relationships with their peers and celebrate their time at WNS together with their classmates and families before continuing their educational journeys to high school.
