The Spirit of Making
The WNS Maker Lab is a space where middle school students develop projects involving robotics, coding, design, and digital fabrication. One spotlight project is the Legends of the Trash Creatures, a sixth grade science and technology unit where students study environmental issues and create 5’ tall creatures made from trash with embedded robotics that sense their environment, light up, and move. In seventh grade, students design interactive games using the Scratch programming language and GameStar Mechanic, and end their year with an interactive robot exhibit using the Hummingbird robotics platform along with cardboard and other simple building materials. Eighth graders working on their Passion Projects may select 3D printing and laser cutting to create prototypes for their product designs.
